Safer Internet Day 2026

Today is Safer Internet Day. Here are a few resources you may find useful.

Firstly, the UK Government has launched a campaign to help parents help their kids identify toxic content online, including false or misleading statements. I should have thought a great place to start would be any statement by a politician, but that’s just me being cyncical.

I’ve had a brief look at the resource and it seems OK, especially the Critical Thinking section. Here it is:

Another useful-looking resource, aimed at a similar audience, may be found at Internet Matters.

One of the apparently insoluble problems of the age is how do you encourage more girls to take up Computing? I think a lot can be done, and have done so myself, but I wonder how far a lot of the effort fails to get to the heart of the issue, which could be the curriculum itself, the way it is taught, or a combination of the two?
