What I've learnt from online classes: mute that mic

Webinar, by Terry Freedman

When you are on any kind of online call, whether that be a class or a discussion, for heaven’s sake mute your microphone when you are not contributing to the proceedings. (Note to tutors: select the option to mute everyone’s mic automatically, if such an option exists in the application.)

Here are the incredibly annoying things that I’ve heard because people have kept their microphones on:

  • John, go and answer the door!

  • My video has stopped working.

  • I can’t hear anything.

  • My grocery delivery has just arrived!

  • I’m trying out a dance move and have got my leg up in the air. (TMI)

  • Papers rustling (mea culpa: that was me)

TURN THE BLASTED THING OFF!
