Now listen: I do know the difference between online teaching, and online learning. Indeed, I’ve been working on what I think will be a longish article about the latter, However, I do think teachers have a role to play — the important role of ensuring that learning takes place (and I am not talking about teachers acting as “facilitators” as usually understood).

At the very least, that involves making decisions about what technology to use (if they are fortunate enough to be able to choose their preferred technology on the basis of their preferred pedagogy), and setting the rules for behaviour. This applies even (or perhaps especially) when teaching adults, and especially in the context of giving others feedback (although I don’t think i covered that in the Tips document!).
