Opportunity cost
This is the cost of something in terms of the next best alternative foregone. Thus, open-source software may be free in monetary terms, but if you have to figure out how to solve problems yourself, or by posting a question in a forum and waiting for a reply, there is a cost in terms of time and inconvenience. As the economist George Stigler once pointed out, there is no such thing as a free lunch.
