Who'd Have Thought It?

Interesting video that highlights just how amazing is the mobile technology we probably take for granted. OK, it's an advertisement, but I think it could make a nice starting point for a discussion with pupils.

One of the projects I used to set students when I was teaching was to envisage their library of the future. Some of the outlandish ideas they came up have since come to pass. So I wonder where youngsters think technology is going?

I clearly remeber having a conversation with my boss about 20 years ago, when I was in my early 20's. He was conviced we would all have our own phone numbers that somehow travel with us wherever we are and when the phone rings (in those days they were all attached to the wall) the person it was ringing for would know it was for them.

I have more respect for him now than I did then, although I haven't seen him for about 19 years. The difference is that now we KNOW we don't know what is ahead... back then we thought we knew.

I think it is a great idea to talk to young people (and old) about what might be in store, I'd love to hear what they have to say.

Thanks for your comment, Kelly. I think you're right about realising now that we really don't know what lies ahead. The thing that amuses me about talking to youngsters is that they really have no concept of a time whene there weren't mobile phones, DVDs etc etc! LOL.
(Of course, I too can barely recall such a time, but that's more to do with the aging process I think!)
