A Great Reading Video

One of the planned special editions of the Computers in Classrooms newsletter is about books, so I was pleased to come across this video by Science Girl Em. Em is a 2nd grader, which I guess means 7 to 8 years old, and she is taking part in the Student Blogging Challenge, run by Sue Walters.I discovered it through Stephen Downes.

This is a delightful response to another video about reading, which I hadn't come across. If you like it, please leave comments on Em's blog; I'm sure she'd appreciate it.

Also on her blog is a wonderful description of a trip to Kansas University. Em writes:

We saw a big giant classroom. I thought it was a theater.

Here is the video. Enjoy!

Thanks for highlighting Emily's blog to me.

The scientist in me has to research it. My first guess based on her About page would have been 8 years however she may be 9 since her about page was first written in Jan, 2009 and here is one of the posts about her birthday posts - http://sciencegirlem.edublogs.org/2009/01/24/emilys-science-birthday/

But what is cool to note is who her dad is :)

Did you notice? ( A clue http://billgx.edublogs.org/about/ ) It's excellent to see his daughter and him learning together! Impressive.

Thx for pointing that out about her age, Sue! I should have done a bit more digging, and my only excuse is that I was virtually falling asleep and should have been in bed instead of hammering away at the keyboard!

I hadn't looked at her dad's profile, so thx for that too. I was, however, very impressed at the way they all obviously learn and do stuff together. Great! I posted a comment on Emily's blog, but it hasn't been approved yet, but what I tried to do was give reasons I liked her post instead of just saying 'cool' or something! Hope she fins it useful.

Cheers :-)
