Coming soon: a bumper edition of Digital Education

The next edition of Digital Education is super-huge. To give you some idea of just how big, there are 16 guest contributors. This is what’s covered:

  • Useful websites for resources and ideas
  • Major coverage of the Bett show, in terms of the products people liked – several are mentioned by more than one person. It’s interesting to read different people’s perspectives, and this section, which takes up the bulk of the ezine, should help you decide how to spend your technology budget – if you’re lucky enough to have one!
  • The gender issue: we feature articles by academic and teacher Amanda Wilson, and school student Ellie Gregson. There are also several websites provided for further information and reading.
  • Two book reviews: Brown dogs and barbers, and The thrilling adventures of Lovelace and Babbage.
  • A couple of blasts from the past. This newsletter has been going for 15 years. You didn’t think I was that old, did you? Anyway, I’ve included a couple of extracts from the early editions. They make for interesting reading! That’s why I decided to include a picture of how Banda sheets worked: that was cutting edge stuff when I started teaching! (Actually, that's not quite true. There were great computers, but the printing facilities were very expensive (a laser printer cost a fortune). The humble Banda was cheap and cheerful, and with a bit of time and imagination you could get some stunning results! Not that I'd ever want to go back to that technology: I don't like having my hands covered in ink for a start!)

But I digress: anything to put off the tediuos job of replacing hypens with en-dashes and making sure all the formatting is consistent. All of that good stuff described above will be coming soon to an inbox near you if, of course, you subscribe. It costs nothing, you get access to some freebies as well as past issues, and you won’t get spammed. OK, now back to the editing.
